Abstract

In the original language

KOMENTÁŘ A ANALÝZA | Jak dopadne Maduro a co bude s venezuelským socialismem?

**COMMENTARY AND ANALYSIS |** What will become of Maduro, and what lies ahead for Venezuelan socialism? That is what much of the global media is currently debating. Yet in the background, a far harsher game is being played. Anyone who believes the U.S. operation was merely a hunt for cheap fuel is completely mistaken. This was not primarily a battle over oil, but a hard slap in China’s face and a clear demonstration of power in an emerging multipolar world. We spoke with Jan Železný, Director of the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies (CAPS) at CEVRO University and a colleague from INFO.CZ, about how Beijing was effectively checkmated in Caracas—and why Xi Jinping now has reason to fear for China’s energy lifelines.
