Kapitola reflektuje možnosti a limity sociální práce během covidové pandemie s akcentem na sociální pracovníky a nejzranitelnější skupiny uživatelů sociálních služeb, jako jsou senioři, osoby se zdravotním postižením a oběti domácího násilí. Popisuje praxi sociální práce jako pomáhající profese, která přejímá využití dovedností a teorií lidského chování nebo sociálních systémů při zmírňování a řešení sociálních problémů, v souvislosti s rolí sociálních pracovníků v pandemii COVID-19. Kapitola také uvádí příklady, kdy sociální pracovníci nemohli naplňovat činnosti, jež přispívají k uskutečňování smyslu a účelu sociální práce, tj. k ochraně lidských práv a lidské důstojnosti či k podpoře sociálního bezpečí osob.

The chapter reflects on the possibilities and limits of social work during the COVID pandemic, with an emphasis on social workers and the most vulnerable groups of social service users, such as seniors, people with disabilities and victims of domestic violence. It describes the practice of social work as a helping profession that adopts the use of skills and theories of human behavior or social systems in mitigating and solving social problems, in connection with the role of social workers in the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter also provides examples of when social workers could not fulfill activities that contribute to the realization of the meaning and purpose of social work, i.e. to the protection of human rights and human dignity or to the promotion of social security of individuals.
