This policy paper shows the gradual weakening of the Iranian regime, both from domestic and geopolitical perspectives. The Iranian regime is trying to discourage doubts about its authority, demonstrating strength within the country, and sowing fear among protesters and dissidents. The economic crisis, political instability, isolation on the international stage, and other factors are forcing the regime to use repression within the country. The mullahs’ regime has recently been increasing the number of executions, and arrests and other forms of repression are the order of the day. Oppressed women and ethnic and religious minorities are the main targets of the armed forces of the Basij and the morality police. The clash between moderate politicians and conservatives, who try to maintain a hard line on religious rules and laws also needs to be mentioned. Iran’s isolationism in the Middle East was shown by the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel and the fall of the Assad regime when the Iranian regime was unable to help its regional allies.
